The Johnston County HAPP helps over 600 Johnston County families on a monthly basis.  

We currently have over 370 Johnston County landlords participating in the program.

The Johnston County Housing Choice Voucher Program provides monthly rental assistance to landlords on behalf of Housing Choice Voucher for income-eligible families. These rental assistance payments cover a portion or, in some cases, their entire monthly contract rent. The family’s share of the rent is based upon 30% of their monthly adjusted income and other program requirements, including the $50.00 minimum rent requirement. For an initial lease, a family’s rental share of the contract rent cannot exceed 40% of the household monthly adjusted income.

Our program is a plus for owners of rental property, and we would like to help you take advantage of the benefits available.

Fair Housing and Reasonable Accommodation Resources

The Fair Housing Act prohibits the denial of housing to a person based on the person’s membership in one or more of the classes protected under the Act. The protected classes are race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, and disability. 

Owners on the HCV/HAPP program have the ability to use their own pre-screening criteria (credit, criminal, rental history, etc) for potential Tenants as long as it falls within federal Fair Housing Guidelines as stated above.
