Johnston County Emergency Services: Firework Safety (2019)

FIREWORK SAFETY
Leave the Light Shows to the Trained Pros
- Fireworks are fun, but they're no joke. Misusing them can result in serious, if not deadly, injury. Thousands, most often teens and children, are injured each year by fireworks.
Remember, They are Called FIRE-Works for a Reason
- Fireworks are responsible for 18,500 fires each year, causing over $43 million in property damage. Johnston County is also abnormally dry this year, increasing the risk of a fire, so be extra cautious with grills, campfires, and fireworks.
Treat all Fireworks and Debris as if it were Live
- Fireworks get very hot. Even a simple sparkler can burn at 1,200 degrees F. Handle all fireworks with extreme care. Even if they have already been shot off, do not pick up any firework debris, it may still be live or hot.
Keep Veterans, Elderly Neighbors, and Pets in Mind
- Make sure that everyone has a great fourth by informing all people in the neighborhood of the planned festivities. They'll appreciate it!
