Johnston County Heritage Center Receives Grant from North Carolina Humanities
For immediate release, January 28, 2025 -
The Johnston County Heritage Center has received a Large Grant from North Carolina Humanities. This $20,000 grant is helping Heritage Center staff and teachers to provide more local history content for students, whether in public, private, or home schools.
“We are grateful to be among the organizations North Carolina Humanities selected to receive grant funding,” said Todd Johnson, Heritage Center Director. This important grant funding supports the creation of local history lesson plans and traveling exhibits for students in grades three, four, and eight, as well as high school students. Online access to this material is provided on the Heritage Center’s website, www.jcheritagecenter.org, and pop-up exhibits are being offered for temporary display in local schools and public libraries. This is the third time the Johnston County Heritage Center has received a grant from North Carolina Humanities, one of the oldest and largest cultural funders in North Carolina. Teachers, school administrators, or librarians wishing to reserve a traveling exhibit may send an email to heritagecenter@johnstonnc.gov, or call the Heritage Center at 919-934-2836. This “Local History in the Classroom” project is made possible by a grant from North Carolina Humanities, a statewide nonprofit and the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
