Area IV Envirothon

2023 NC Area IV Envirothon will be on March 16, 2023 in Durham, NC. 

The host for the Area IV Envirothon was the Warren Soil and Water Conservation District. The competition rotates around the eleven counties in the Area IV region.

We are proud of following Johnston County teams who placed in the Regional qualifying Area 4 Envirothon: Smithfield Middle School Envirothon Team, called "Royal Knights" placed 2nd, Clayton Middle placed 3rd with Team "Clayton Middle FFA" and 4th with Team "Clayton Middle EnviroHeros."

South Johnston High School had one team that advanced to the State Envirothon on April 29-30. Their team called "South Johnston FFA Suitcase Spirits." who placed 5th out of 20 high school teams. 

These four teams will advance to the State Envirothon competition and represent Johnston County at the event.

Envirothon is a team  challenge where students compete in their knowledge of environmental science topics such as soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics and current issues and is sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. 

Winning teams are eligible to receive cash prizes and scholarships. 

 The Envirothon is the largest environmental science competition in North America where five-member teams complete training and testing in five subject areas:  Soils, Aquatics, Forestry, Wildlife and Current Environmental Issues.  The students compete in their knowledge of natural resource management, identification and critical thinking skills relating to environmental concerns.  

The Envirothon is sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
