There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open a new mile of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST) at Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site on September 15th. This new stretch of MST is the first footpath that the Friends of the MST has built using funds from the Complete the Trails Program, an unprecedented investment in trails by the state. The ribbon-cutting event begins at 10:30 a.m. In addition to Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, speakers include Reid Wilson, secretary of the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site, Friends of Johnston County Parks, Friends of Bentonville Battlefield, and the other partners who made this exciting new trail possible.
Plan on arriving by 10:15 AM to give time to park a short distance away from the trailhead. Light refreshments will be provided before the ceremony. Park at the Cole Planation lot (4322 Harper House Road, Four Oaks, NC) and walk or take a very short shuttle to the trailhead. There are no restroom facilities at this location. If needed, please stop at the Visitor Center (5466 Harper House Road, Four Oaks, NC) before coming to the ceremony. Please be sure to RSVP; we look forward to walking this new trail with you!
