Johnston County has 62 park and recreation sites currently. 29 of these sites have playgrounds for children.
Additionally, 21 athletic associations provide athletic leagues, active spaces, and recreational/leisure play areas.
The sites shown below dedicate a large portion of their efforts towards environmental and historical education for children:
- Bailey and Sarah Williamson Nature Preserve
- Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site
- Clemmons Educational State Forest
- Howell Woods Environmental Learning Center at Johnston Community College (JCC)
