The department completes an annual inspection of all public, private and religious school buildings. Public school buildings are licensed by the North Carolina Department of Public Education. Private and religious schools are licensed by the Office of Non-Public Education.

Grade cards are not posted in schools for the building inspections. All cafeterias / food service that prepares food on-site and serves food to the children are permitted and inspected by this office. Grade cards are posted in the food service area for this inspection.
